Men's teamhits the road
DETROIT -- The Youngstown State University men's basketball team will play its final road game of the season tonight when it travels to meet the University of Detroit Mercy at 7:05.
The Penguins (3-21, 1-13 Horizon League) have lost 12 straight games and are 0-14 on the road this season.
Detroit is in third place in the conference with a 9-5 record.
Tonight's game will be broadcast by WBBW-AM (1240), WSOM-AM (600) and WPIC-AM (790).
Tennis teamloses to Toledo
TOLEDO -- Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Toledo Sunday. The Penguins' next action will be Saturday when they take on Butler University and UW-Green Bay in Butler.

Curbstone to add17 to Hall
BOARDMAN -- The Curbstone Coaches will add 17 new members to its Hall of Fame honor roll during ceremonies to be held on May 19 at Mr. Anthony's Banquet Center.
The banquet marks the 35th induction ceremony dating to the 1958 charter class. Set for induction will be three baseball players, one basketball standout, two bowling legends, a boxer, one contributor, three football standouts, a softball great and one track and field/cross country notable.
Also set for enshrinement is a lifetime achievement award recipient and three others who will be recognized posthumously.
The honorees include Harry Arroyo (boxing), Joseph P. Flauto (posthumous award/baseball), Dick Hartzell (contribution to sports), Andy Kuchmaner (football), Ida LaCivita (bowling), Joseph O. Lane (lifetime achievement award), Richard Marsico (posthumous award/football), Bob Martinko (basketball), Beth Sheridan (track and field/cross country), Earl Simpson (softball), Dan Stryffler (baseball), Terry Taylor (football), Ben Thomas (baseball), Frank J. "Fuzzy" Toman (bowling), Ernie White (football), Albert Zill (posthumous award/boxing) and Bob Zumrick (baseball).

Blewitt wins
COLUMBUS -- Adriane Blewitt, a junior at Ashland University and a graduate of Boardman High, won the women's shot put at Ohio State's Scarlet and Gray Invitational with a throw of 52 feet, 2 inches.
Blewitt remains undefeated this year and continues to be ranked No. 1 in Division II national competition.
In the 20-pound weight throw, Blewitt threw her personal best of 62-10 3/4 for third place. This distance exceeds the Division II national record.
Blewitt is ranked second in the weight throw.

CLEVELAND -- Joel Shanker of the Philadelphia Kixx scored 4:36 into overtime to give the East Division a 17-15 victory over the West in the Major Indoor Soccer League All-Star Game.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- San Francisco 49ers coach Steve Mariucci says the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have offered him their coach-GM job.
The San Jose Mercury News learned that the Buccaneers are willing to give Mariucci a contract ranging from four to six years and a salary in excess of $5 million annually, which would make him the league's highest-paid coach. The years and terms in Tampa Bay's offer are still flexible.
Suns coachsteps down
PHOENIX -- Scott Skiles stepped down as coach of the disappointing Phoenix Suns and was replaced by assistant Frank Johnson.
The Suns, who have made the playoffs every year since the 1987-88 season, currently are out of postseason contention with a 25-26 record. They fell under the .500 mark by losing their past two games.
The 43-year-old Johnson, the first black head coach in franchise history, plans no immediate lineup changes. He said he believes the Suns need fine-tuning to turn around their season of underachievement.
Williams' lawyerdenies report
ALEXANDRIA TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- A lawyer for former basketball star Jayson Williams has denied a newspaper report that his client was playfully handling a gun when a limousine driver was fatally shot.
Williams had been showing off his shotgun at his mansion, flipping it around, when it suddenly went off, The Star-Ledger of Newark reported, citing unidentified sources.
Mattiace wins
LOS ANGELES -- After 220 tries, Len Mattiace finally won on the PGA Tour.
Mattiace closed with a 3-under 68 and took advantage of a late collapse by crowd favorite Scott McCarron to win the Nissan Open, becoming the third first-time winner on tour this year.
