Jerome Coleman scored a career-high 30 points, and Rutgers held off visiting Miami when Darius Rice missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Rutgers (17-8, 7-5 Big East) beat a ranked team for the fourth time at home this season, setting a school record.
Miami (21-5, 8-5) trailed 61-52 with 54.5 seconds left before cutting it to 64-61 on Rice's basket with 9.6 seconds left.
