Hit-and-run accident snaps utility pole

SHARON, Pa. -- Police said a hit-and-run accident along East State Street in front of the Sharon Middle-High School caused authorities to close the road overnight. The road is open again.
Police said an eastbound vehicle ran off the right side of the street and slammed into a utility pole, snapping it in two around 7:50 p.m. Sunday. The impact left the pole, which held a transformer, hanging upside down from the wires and the wires were sparking, police said.
The vehicle left the scene, but police said they do have a tentative identification of the driver. Penn Power crews spent the night replacing the pole and restoring electrical service.
