Writing group to meet
The critique group Focus on Fiction will meet at Barnes & amp; Noble in Boardman on Saturday at 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Writers of all genres are invited. The group's goal is to encourage and support one another as writers. Each person is asked to bring five to 10 pages of writing, and participants will exchange and critique it. Philosophy book
Charles L. Reid of Youngstown recently published "A Philosopher's Book of Lists and Anecdotes" through 1stBooks Library, a print-on-demand publisher. The book summarizes and analyzes theories and anecdotes from the lives of great thinkers.
'Young's Town' reissued
Pig Iron Press has published the second edition of "Young's Town," an updated collection of history essays, reminiscences and reflections that celebrate Youngstown.
Seventy-six writers and artists, natives or longtime residents of the Mahoning Valley are presented. The book adds 20 pages and six authors to the original title published in 1997. Literary conference
A literary conference will be held at Kent State University Ashtabula campus March 22 and 23. Its theme will be "20th-Century Fantasy from Beatrix to Harry." Twenty-minute presentations will explore scholarly, critical or theoretical issues. Keynote speaker will be Lois Lowry, winner of two Newberry Medals and author of more than 20 books for young adults.
