NEW CASTLE 8 men graduate from program

The graduates will serve on United Way boards in Lawrence County.
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- There are eight men graduating from Project Blueprint, a United Way program designed to involve more minorities in community service in Lawrence County.
UW Director Gayle Young said the men will outline their goals and what they learned through the program at dinner Tuesday at The New Englander on Wilmington Road.
This is the second group of men to go through the program which started in 2000. The first group, called the Lazarus Group, served as mentors for those going the program this year, Young said.
Martin Turner, president of the Lazarus Group, will also speak Tuesday about their accomplishments, she said.
The eight most recent Project Blueprint graduates are:
UJames Carmen, U.S. Postal Service employee.
UDwayne Evans, owner/stylist of Divine Design.
URobert Keyes, Department of Welfare employee.
UBrian Crawl of Cray House.
URobert Lyles, Columbia Gas.
UJesse Moss, Youth Development Center.
UIvan Scott of Reese Bros.
UHarold Taylor of Pennsylvania American Water Co.
These graduates will now move on to serve the community on various boards for nonprofit groups.
Project Blueprint is a national program instituted by the United Way of America in 1988 with a grant from the Kellogg Foundation. It identifies and develops leaders from minority groups and prepares them to get involved in community organizations. The local program is targeted for minorities or people interested in inner-city volunteerism in Lawrence County.
Young said another class will likely start sometime later this summer.
