Grass-roots workshop
HOWLAND -- A grass-roots workshop is being sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Trumbull County and the A. Philip Randolph Institute. The event will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 2 in Leo's Ristorante.
Subjects include jury duty, political redistricting and how to let your voice be heard on issues. Legal experts and politicians will be among the panelists.
Cost is $15, which includes lunch. Reservations are due by Feb. 25. Call Velia Baba at (330) 638-1876.
Girard chamber meeting
GIRARD -- The Greater Girard Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Girard Free Library, 105 E. Prospect St.
Girard bike trail panel
GIRARD -- The Girard Bike Trail Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday in the city building to discuss fund raising for the proposed trail through the city.
Weathersfield meeting
WEATHERSFIELD -- Township trustees will meet at 4 p.m. Wednesday in a special executive session in township hall to discuss police personnel matters.
Traffic safety blitz
GIRARD -- Police here will conduct a traffic safety blitz Monday through Feb. 28. Officers will focus on U.S. Route 422.
They will be looking for speeders and seat belt violators in an effort to raise awareness of safety issues, including proper use of child restraint seats. Hours of the blitz will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Serious condition
CLEVELAND -- A Warren woman was in serious condition Saturday night after surgery at a Cleveland hospital for injuries she sustained in a one-car crash Friday afternoon.
Ruth Gardner, 57, of Commerce Street N.W., was flown from Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital to Metrohealth Medical Center in Cleveland after the accident. She was in a car that crashed at Lover's Lane N.W. and Randolph Street N.W.
Critical condition
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Canfield woman was in critical condition Saturday night at St. Elizabeth Health Center with injuries she suffered when the car she was driving hit a truck on state Route 11.
Christa R. Briceland, 20, of Maple Springs Drive, was admitted in serious condition after the crash Thursday morning, but her condition was downgraded.
The condition of her front-seat passenger, Stacey L. Robinson, 20, of Haymaker Avenue N.W., Warren, was upgraded to stable Saturday. She had been in serious condition.
Man tries to lure girl
YOUNGSTOWN -- A man tried to lure a 12-year-old Volney Rogers Junior High School pupil into his vehicle after she got off the school bus and walked to her Wesley Avenue home on the West Side, police said.
The man asked the girl to get into his black sport utility vehicle at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, but she ran. He followed her briefly, police said.
