AHA support
During February, commercial sponsors of the American Heart Association's Power of Love fund-raising campaign will donate a part of the proceeds from specific products to the heart association. Sponsors include Walgreens, Redken, OPI Nail Lacquer, Pantene conditioner, the American Beauty Association, and participating Federal Department Stores (Burdine's, Goldsmith's, Lazarus and Rich's). AHA spent $382 million during fiscal year 2000-2001 on research support, public and professional education, and community programs on heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases, which annually kill about 960,000 Americans.

Bowl-a-thon
BOARDMAN -- Big Brothers & amp; Big Sisters of Mahoning Valley will have its 19th annual Bowl for Kids' Sake Bowl-a-thon from 4-7 p.m. April 27 at Camelot Lanes.
To help the organization raise money for program development, people are encouraged to select a team of six players and collect pledges of $55 per member.
All bowling and shoe rental is free.
Big Brothers & amp; Big Sisters will provide food from more than 20 area restaurants, dole out more than 75 door prizes, and provide an opportunity for participants to win a grand prize for bringing in the most pledges.

Cancer program
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons has approved Sharon Regional Health System's cancer program. Sharon Regional's Cancer Care Center, on Highland Road, offers hematology and medical oncology treatment, radiation oncology treatment, access to national clinical trials, an education resource library, and nurses and therapists specializing in cancer treatment.
The approval program sets standards for cancer treatment. Securing the Commission on Cancer approval requires an extensive evaluation process and performance review every three years.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- St. Francis Hospital offers community residents health screenings, at costs ranging from free to $25, at the following locations:
UTuesday: 9 a.m. to noon/1 to 3:30 p.m., Wal-Mart, 121 Winter Road (blood pressure only); 9 to 11 a.m., First Presbyterian Church (blood pressure only).

Developmental disabilities
POLAND -- Iron and String Life Enhancement, in collaboration with the Mahoning County Council for Retarded Citizens, is offering a family forum, How Medicaid Redesign Impacts the Future of Our Sons and Daughters in the Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities System and the Advocacy at the Adult Services Level. Foundation grants
WARREN -- The Trumbull Memorial Hospital Foundation is offering Health Community Initiative grants of up to $20,000 to challenge agencies and organizations in Trumbull County to make a difference in the community's health. Since 1996, the TMH Foundation has awarded over $400,000 in grants. Public or private nonprofit (501c (3) organizations, government agencies or other specially classified institutions within Trumbull County are eligible to apply.
