YOUNGSTOWN YSU makes 3 appointments in effort to increase enrollment

A veteran of YSU's athletics department is now helping recruit transfer students.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State University has made several appointments in what President David Sweet says is an ongoing effort to increase enrollment.
Pauline Saternow, formerly interim executive director of athletics, is now the director of the office of undergraduate admissions for transfer recruitment.
Elaine Ruse, former assistant director of financial aid and scholarships, is now director of that office.
And Jeanne Herman, formerly associate bursar, has been appointed associate registrar.
"These three appointments provide us with highly skilled and dedicated leadership to advance the enrollment goals of the university," said Dr. Thomas Vukovich, interim executive director of enrollment management.
About appointees: Saternow, of Lowellville, who served in various capacities in YSU's athletics department for 26 years, will oversee recruitment of transfer students, which Sweet said "is a significant component of our enrollment growth strategy."
State records show YSU has the lowest percentage of transfer students among university main campuses in Ohio.
Ruse, of Poland, has been interim director of financial aid for a year, in which time the office launched a new financial aid packaging system.
"The new system enhances recruitment and retention efforts by presenting families with a complete picture of the available resources to attend YSU," she said. "It also helped the office improve the delivery of aid and services provided to students."
Herman, of Boardman, was appointed to her new job after a national search. Her primary goal in her new position will be to help develop the university's online registration process.
"The objective is to make the entire registration process almost seamless and make enrolling at YSU as accessible as possible," she said.
