Milosevic must answer for crimes against humanity

Even with the mountains of evidence against him, former Yugoslav strongman Slobodan Milosevic continues to stand on his own arrogance. Like those who would deny the Holocaust, Milosevic denies any role in the ethnic cleansing campaigns against the Bosnian and Kosovar Muslims, but tries to portray the outrages his minions carried out as nothing more than the Serbian people defending their honor against outsiders. In his mockery of the United Nations War Crimes Tribunal in The Hague, Milosevic said, "The prosecution is uttering such horrendous lies, what we have heard here insults the intelligence of this planet."
We can only ask what planet Milosevic is on?
It must be a very topsy-turvy world indeed -- where tens of thousands of murdered civilians are responsible for their own deaths, where the nations that came to their rescue are blamed for atrocities and where unconscionable greed and consummate evil are considered virtues.
Big lies: Then too, on the unearthly home where Milosevic dwells, lies told often enough and big enough are perceived as truths.
That may the netherworld from which Milosevic is conducting his defense. Fortunately for the people of Earth, the ex-dictator is being prosecuted by those committed to justice.
His crimes against humanity are not only crimes against the Croatian, Bosnian and Kosavar people. They are crimes against the human race.
Milosevic, of course, sees it differently. "I have done everything in the interest of the people and the state," he said. "It was difficult to make decisions, but I was always inspired by our glorious history. " Whatever glories Milosevic believes history recorded will not stand up to the historical record of the horrors perpetrated in the name of a greater Serbia.
As proof of Milosevic's reign of terror has been made public, even Serbs are now distancing themselves from their erstwhile leader. It is hard to see photographs of mass graves, murdered children, raped and tortured women and hacked-apart men and feel any pride in the warped nationalism that would have enabled such reprehensible behavior.
Milosevic must pay for his wrongdoing.
