Man charged with fleeing from cops

YOUNGSTOWN -- A 23-year-old South Side man was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center with a broken leg and cuts to his head and face after he attempted to run from a city police officer after a traffic stop, police reports show.
The officer attempted to stop the man driving a Ford Taurus at Rayen Avenue and Fifth Avenue Court on the city's North Side after he ran a stop sign about 2:45 a.m. today.
The driver sped off, turning off the car's headlights and running several stop signs before stopping at the end of Carlotta Drive, a dead-end street.
The driver then fled on foot with three city officers and a St. Elizabeth security officer chasing him. One officer found him lying on the ground moaning in front of the Cafaro Building at 2445 Belmont Ave. He told police he had tripped over steps.
He was issued citations for driving under suspension, failing to stop at a stop sign and fleeing and eluding. The man, of Fairview Road, was in satisfactory condition this morning, a hospital spokeswoman said.
