GIRARD Asentes face Ky. court in custody case

The local couple vow not to give up the fight if they lose in Kentucky's high court.
GIRARD -- Rich and Cheryl Asente headed for Kentucky today for another hearing in their longtime custody battle.
The Sioux Trail couple have been embroiled in legal wrangling for years to keep custody of their adopted 4-year-old son, Justin.
The case will be argued Friday before the Kentucky Supreme Court.
Even if the couple loses there, Cheryl Asente has said, the couple will not give up their cause.
Legal labyrinth: The biological parents, Regina Moore and Jerry Dorning of Kentucky, gave up Justin for adoption in February 1998, when the boy was 11 months old.
Justin was placed at the time with the Asentes, but the biological parents changed their minds a month later.
The Asentes' adoption case has bounced between Ohio and Kentucky courts.
The Asentes previously adopted Justin's brother, Joey, in 1995.
During the long dispute, the Asentes were granted custody of Justin by the Kentucky Court of Appeals.
The appellate court ruled that Moore and Dorning realized what they were doing when they gave Justin up for adoption.
The Kentucky couple appealed that ruling to Kentucky's high court.
The Asentes' legal bills exceed $500,000.
