Warren mulls naming street after Stringer

WARREN -- The city is considering renaming Southwest Boulevard after Korey Stringer.
Council was to discuss legislation tonight to honor Stringer, an all-pro offensive tackle for the Minnesota Vikings who died from heatstroke during drills this past preseason.
The proposal is to change the name of Southwest Boulevard Southwest, from Palmyra Road Southwest to Deerfield Avenue Southwest, to Korey Stringer Boulevard Southwest.
The city said those whose property abuts Southwest Boulevard petitioned the city to make the change.
Officials said the idea is to recognize Stringer for his accomplishments and generosity to the community.
The Warren native gave his time and money to several local causes, including the Rebecca Williams Community Center.
Councilman Gary Fonce, D-at-large, has asked the city to present a figure at tonight's council meeting to show how much the change will cost the city.
