ICL-TCL BOYS Springfield, Ridge, McDonald, Mathews win with room to spare



Sebring held off an upset bid by Crestview for a victory in the Tri-County League.
BERLIN CENTER -- Springfield High took a commanding 32-6 first quarter lead to cruise past Western Reserve 88-41 in an Inter-County League boys basketball game on Tuesday night.
David Rispinto had 18 points, including four 3's, and 10 assists to lead Springfield (17-1, 13-0), which clinched the Inter-County League outright.
The Tigers held a 33-13 rebounding edge. Dan Schuler had 16 points and nine rebounds, and Jim Mash and Jeff Mershimer each had 12 points for Springfield.
Jeremy Shevel scored 15 to lead Western Reserve (5-13, 5-8).
Mineral Ridge 73, South Range 59: MINERAL RIDGE -- Chris Anderson scored 10 first-quarter points and Malachi Hall added nine as Mineral Ridge took a 25-12 lead after one quarter.
Hall finished with 29 points, 10 rebounds, seven steals and six assists to lead Mineral Ridge (15-3, 11-2 ICL). Anderson added 25 points and Kevin Garland had 12 of the Rams' 38 rebounds.
Ryan Copeland led South Range (14-4, 9-3) with 14 points and George Rohan added 10 points.
McDonald 74, Jackson-Milton 58: MCDONALD -- Kevin Stonestreet scored 22 points and Nick Testa added 20 to lead McDonald.
The Blue Devils (8-9, 6-6 ICL) took a 40-22 halftime lead. Jason Joynes added 17 points in the victory.
Tim Shaw led Jackson-Milton with 24 points.
Mathews 60, Lowellville 40: LOWELLVILLE -- Mathews (6-13, 5-8 ICL) took advantage of an 18-7 first-quarter lead.
Adam Hughes and Marc Burcham paced the Mustangs with 19 points apiece.
Andy Peterson took scoring honors for the Rockets (0-19, 0-13) with 22 points and he grabbed 12 rebounds. Matt Meehan had four assists.
Sebring 50, Crestview 48: SEBRING -- Sebring held off a furious upset bid by Crestview for a victory in the Tri-County League.
Crestview (9-9, 7-5), trailing by two points, had several opportunities in the waning seconds to tie or win.
After Josh Dean's free throw put Sebring up by the final margin, Crestview missed a shot. The Trojans' Joe Springer got the rebound but was whistled for traveling. The Rebels had another chance but missed another shot with two seconds remaining. A held-ball on the rebound gave Crestview one last chance for a tip-in, but Sebring knocked the ball away for the win.
The Trojans (15-3, 10-3), who rebounded from a loss to Lisbon last Friday, were led by David Scarpitti's 13 points and Dean's 12.
Crestview was led by Chris Cook (13 points), Troy Duwe (12) and Joe Leskosky (10).
United 86, East Palestine 66: EAST PALESTINE -- Devan Peters led three United players in double figures as the Golden Eagles took a 43-21 halftime lead.
Jason Sidwell scored 17 points and Nick Schneider added 12 points and eight rebounds for United (13-5, 10-3 TCL).
Brett Young had 18 points for East Palestine (4-14, 4-8).
Columbiana 66, Southern 40: COLUMBIANA -- The Clippers took a 33-19 halftime lead.
Jared Grimm scored 19 points, Austen Couchenour had 16 points, Eric Ostrander had 13 and Kurt Williams added 10 to lead Columbiana (8-11, 5-8 TCL). Josh Diaz had 12 points and four steals for Southern (6-13, 2-11).
