Pool has scuba,swimming lessons
HUBBARD -- Scuba classes will be conducted from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, Feb. 25 through March 13, at Hubbard Community Pool.

Also, swimming lessons will be conducted in two sessions: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 7 p.m., starting Feb. 26; and Saturdays starting March 2. Registration deadlines are Feb. 19 for the first session and Feb. 23 for the second session.
Open swimming hours are subject to change.
The pool will be closed this Saturday for a swim meet and Monday in observance of Presidents Day.

Men rob shopper
WARREN -- A 65-year-old Bane Street S.W. woman said she was robbed by two men as she was putting groceries into her car at Giant Eagle on Parkman Road about 2:15 p.m. Friday.
One man had a gun and demanded the victim's rings and cash.
Man reports attack
WARREN -- A 23-year-old West Avenue N.W. man told police he was attacked by several men with baseball bats and golf clubs while he was walking on Mercer N.E. about 1 p.m. Sunday.
He said about eight men attacked him. He was treated for rib and wrist injuries.
Store is burglarized
MCKINLEY HEIGHTS -- Weathersfield police are investigating a weekend break-in at Dollar General.
Capt. Joe Consiglio said someone pried open the door of the U.S. Route 422 store and broke into the safe late Saturday or early Sunday.
Man struck by vehicle
AUSTINTOWN -- A 21-year-old Austintown man is in critical condition at St. Elizabeth Health Center after he and a 22-year-old woman were struck by a vehicle while walking in a parking lot near South Raccoon Road over the weekend.
The two were struck around 2:11 a.m. Saturday by a vehicle driven by a 21-year-old Lake Milton man. The injured woman was treated and released.
The accident remains under investigation.

Backyard conservation
CANFIELD -- Mahoning County Solid Waste District will sponsor a program called Hidden Splendor: Uncovering Backyard Bounty, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at Mahoning MetroParks Farm on state Route 46.
The event is in conjunction with the agency's annual backyard conservation contest and will feature information and speakers on topics such as tree planting, backyard ponds, composting and creation of backyard habitat.

ACLU chief on panel
HIRAM -- Nadine Strossen, president of the American Civil Liberties Union, will participate in a panel discussion entitled "Liberty & amp; Security" at 8 p.m. Thursday at Hiram College.
Also on the panel will be Kyle Olson, a leading authority on high-tech terrorism and biological weapons.
The program will highlight the challenges of balancing civil liberty and security issues in wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
It will be in Hayden Auditorium.
