SWIMMING Boardman's Hayley Robinson sets marks in sectional meet



The freshman won the 100-yard breaststroke.
AKRON -- Freshman Hayley Robinson of Boardman High School took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke, setting a meet and school record (1 minute, 7.65 seconds) at the Division I sectional swimming and diving tournament Saturday at the University of Akron Ocaseck Natatorium.
Akron Firestone won the girls title with 557 points and was followed by Hudson (351), Brecksville (269), Kent Roosevelt (222), Stow (218) and Boardman (165) in a field of 10 schools.
Robinson finished fifth in the 200 individual medley in 2:18.47.
Qualifiers: The top three swimmers and two relays qualified for the district, along with 25 at-large swimmers and 10 relays representing the five sectionals.
The boys and girls district is scheduled for next Friday and Saturday at Cleveland State University.
The Spartans' Shelby Robinson, Sarah Grabert, Kristen Lower and Robinson placed fourth in the 400 freestyle relay to set a school record (3:53.55).
Kelly Kuntzman, Hayley Robinson, Lindsay Knight and Shelby Robinson placed fourth in the 200 medley relay (1:58.55).
Knight, Grabert, Katie Leone and Shelby Robinson took fourth place in the 200 freestyle relay (1:46.41).
Shelby Robinson finished eighth in the 50 freestyle (26.35). Grabert placed eighth in the 200 freestyle (2:07.01), and Knight was ninth in the 100 butterfly (1:07.50).
Boys: In the boys division, Akron Firestone took team laurels with 573 points and was followed by Hudson (361), Stow (186), Cuyahoga Falls (181), Kent Roosevelt (163) and Boardman (158) in a field of 20 schools.
Junior Tyler O'Halloran of Boardman took first place in the 50 freestyle in a sectional record (21.11 seconds), and he was second in the 100 freestyle (47.10). Jon Albrecht of Akron Firestone won the race (46.69) as both athletes bettered the old mark (47.76).
O'Halloran, Ryan Yosay, Brian Katz and Lee Knight took third place in the 200-medley relay (1:42.98).
Grant Brown, Yosay, Knight and O'Halloran were third in the 200 freestyle relay (1:31.28).
Yosay placed eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.99), and Brown was 11th in the 100 freestyle (51.83).
Three individuals and two relays advanced to the district at Cleveland State University. There will be 35 at-large qualifiers from the five sectionals and 20 relays.
