Robbery conviction
WARREN -- A jury in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court has acquitted a Warren man on one count of aggravated robbery but convicted him on two other aggravated robbery charges.
The jury deliberated about 21/2 hours Friday before reaching the verdict on Charles "CJ" Williams.
The jury, which began hearing the case Monday in the courtroom of Judge W. Wyatt McKay, convicted Williams, 28, on one count of felonious assault and one count complicity to tampering with evidence.
The case stems from a Sept. 29 robbery of Dairy Mart, North Park Avenue.
Police said Williams shot the cashier in the arm when he was fleeing the store.
The jury also found Williams guilty of the Oct. 2 robbery of the North Leavitt Road Dairy Mart but acquitted him in the Oct. 2 robbery of GEM Food Mart, Summit Street.
Boy assaulted
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 14-year-old boy was assaulted Thursday by another boy at Boys Childcare Center on East Midlothian Boulevard.
Police said the boy was in the basement when the 17-year-old assailant entered, turned off lights and kicked him.
Officers took the 17-year-old to the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center then back to the center because the detention facility is full.
Ruptured gas line
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- A ruptured gas line caused evacuation of Hickory High School about a half-hour before normal dismissal time Friday.
Fire Marshal Robert Goeltz said a crew putting in a waterline as part of the widening of Pa. Route 18 cut the gas main that runs parallel to the highway in front of the high school just before 2 p.m.
Traffic was briefly rerouted until the gas line could be shut off.
Beaver trustees
NORTH LIMA -- The Beaver Township trustees will conduct a work session at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the township safety building, 601 W. Range Road.
Veterans health care
BESSEMER, Pa. -- The Butler Veterans Medical Center outreach mobile unit will be at American Legion Post 638 in Bessemer from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday.
Health-care evaluations, blood work and information on veterans' services will be available.

Theft from city
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A former worker for the New Castle Sanitation Authority accused of stealing money has waived her right to a preliminary hearing.
Deanna Christofer Jacobs, 55, of Delaware Avenue, New Castle, is charged with theft by failure to make required disposition of funds received and misapplication of entrusted property and property of government or financial institutions.
District Justice Melissa Amodie sent the case to Lawrence County Common Pleas Court for trial.
Police said at least $1,700 in cash payments were missing from the sewage authority office from Jan. 25, 1999, to Oct. 11, 2000. Jacobs signed a statement Nov. 16, 2000, stating she took the money, according to a police affidavit.
Drug sale charges
SHARON, Pa. -- Police have charged Christopher McGinnis, 25, of Stambaugh Avenue, with the illegal sale of drugs to undercover officers five times between Dec. 2, 1999, and July 21, 2000.
McGinnis, who was being held in Mercer County Jail on unrelated charges, was arraigned on five counts of unlawful sale of a controlled substance and single counts of possession of cocaine with intent to deliver, criminal conspiracy and criminal use of a telephone or pager.
He was being held on $50,000 bond.

A flower sale to benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life will take place Thursday in the classroom-administration building, sponsored by A.N.T.S., an organization for nontraditional students.
From 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 21, Obed Sheldon will perform classical violin arrangements with gospel music in Lecture Hall A.
