Gates Mills leads Div. II swim sectional



PERRY -- Poland junior Carey Venglarcik placed third in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.55 at Friday's sectional swimming meet at Perry High School's pool.
Lauren Torpey of Gates Mills Hawken won the event in a record 59.58 seconds.
The Bulldogs' Raeanne Coppola placed third in the 50 freestyle in 28.70 seconds. Jesse Radtke of Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin won the race in 25.01.
Mooney's Rachael Feurtado placed fourth in 100 freestyle (56.50) and Coppola was fifth (57.36).
Feurtado finished fifth in the 200 freestyle in 2:02.29. Alyssa Kiel of Gates Mills Hawken placed first in 1:54.10.
Katy Chaney of Lakeview placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.51). Julieann Watson of Gates Mill Hawken won the race in a record 1:07.97.
Venglarcik, Elizabeth Rothenberg, Allyson Simons and Coppola of Poland finished fourth in the 200 medley relay in 2:00.52. Gates Mills Hawken won the race in a record 1:52.69.
Becky Bertuzzi of Warren JFK placed fourth in the 500 freestyle in 5:33.24. Alyssa Kiel of Gates Mills Hawken won the event in a record 4:53.44.
Gates Mills Hawken is in first place in the standings with 583 points.
Poland is fourth with 174, Warren JFK eighth with 98, Hubbard is ninth with 58, Mooney 12th with 29, Western Reserve is 13th with 26, Ursuline is 14th with nine and Niles is 16th with 6.
