YOUNGSTOWN Council action



Council handled these items Wednesday:
Appropriated $25,000 from the Community Development Agency to fund the Minority Business Apprenticeship Program.
Authorized the board of control to accept a $157,127 grant to fund the Juvenile Diversion Program in the police department for 2002.
Authorized the board of control to contract for an engineering analysis and recommendation to improve Market Street between Garfield and Falls avenues, site of recent fatal accidents.
Authorized the board of control to offer a $2 million, no interest loan for up to 18 months to Domestic Linen Supply Co., which is expanding and using part of the old Tartan Textile site.
Appropriated $100,000 more in federal funds for the Mahoning County lead program, which uses the money to repair homes.
Created the job of assistant compliance director in the Community Development Agency to improve oversight. The job pays $35,006 annually.
Approved a three-year contract with the union representing about 100 water department workers. Wages will increase 30 cents per hour plus 4 percent each year, the same increases as other city unions.
Authorized the board of control to waive permit fees for the renovation of the second and third floors at Powers Auditorium.
