SHARON, Pa. -- The Women of Visions Inc. artwork display will begin Friday at the Valley Art Guild studio at 10 Vine Ave. The organization, located in Pittsburgh, is a nonprofit group founded in 1981 to advance the art of black women through self-promotion and education. The work of 14 members will be featured in the Sharon show, titled "Sepia-She, who is Brown." It will feature work in ceramics, painting, fiber and graphic arts. The show opens with a public reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and will run through March 1. Gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m. on Mondays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays. It also will be open from noon to 4 p.m. this Saturday only.
Assault charge
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Judith Jenkins, 53, of Mount Air Road, North Beaver Township, faces charges of recklessly endangering another person and aggravated assault. Pennsylvania State Police accuse Jenkins of pointing a loaded weapon at a man who came to repossess her vehicle at 9 a.m. Wednesday. They said she politely asked him to leave. Jenkins was arraigned Wednesday and released without monetary bond.
Sharon police probethefts of windows
SHARON, Pa. -- Police are investigating the theft of more leaded-glass windows in the city. The city has had a rash of stained- and leaded-glass window thefts, and police said Wednesday that someone took four leaded-glass windows from a vacant house in the 100 block of Woodrow Court between Friday and Tuesday afternoon. Entry was gained by breaking a basement window, and no neighbors reported seeing anything unusual, police said. Police said the method of entry and the apparently silent removal of windows fit similar thefts at vacant houses around the city. The thefts seem to occur in cycles, with several reported in a period of weeks and then none occurring for months. The cycle has been running in Sharon for several years, police said.
Inmate assault
ELKTON -- A federal grand jury in Cleveland has indicted an inmate at the Elkton Federal Correctional Institution on a charge of assaulting a fellow inmate there with a dangerous weapon, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. Hong Ping, 34, is charged with pouring scalding liquid on a sleeping inmate and beating him with what appeared to be a lock in a sock. Ping faces a maximum penalty of 10 years' imprisonment and a $250,000 fine if convicted. Federal officials did not say why Ping was in the prison, nor did they identify the victim.
Family escapes fire
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- No one was injured in a fire that destroyed a mobile home at 745 Dutch Lane. Fire Marshal Robert Goeltz said the blaze started shortly before noon Wednesday on a couch in the home of Lawrence Schultz and Lisa Boyle. The couple and their young daughter were home at the time but got out safely, Goeltz said. The cause of the blaze was listed as accidental and there was no insurance on the property, Goeltz said, noting that the family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A house fire early today caused traffic to be rerouted around Pa. Route 65 from Pleasant View and Gardner Stop roads in Shenango Township. The blaze started just after 5 a.m. Firefighters could not be reached this morning for more details. Shenango and several nearby volunteer departments were called.
Facing charges
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Two brothers face charges after a fight that sent one to the hospital with dog bite wounds. Police said the argument occurred at about 5:20 a.m. Sunday at a home on Fairview School Road in Slippery Rock Township. An 18-year-old man had to be treated at Jameson Hospital for dog bites to his face, arms, torso and feet. Police said the dog was released by the man's older brother, a 21-year-old man, during the argument. Police said the men were arguing and the 18-year-old allegedly made threats and had a knife. Police said charges are pending against both men.
