Teachers are hit during fight

YOUNGSTOWN -- Two teachers were struck several times as they attempted to break up a fight at the Sheridan Elementary School on the city's South Side, according to city police reports.
Two boys began fighting in a cafeteria lunch line at about 11:50 a.m. Wednesday, and two female teachers ordered them to stop.
One boy complied but the other hit both teachers several times, knocking off one's glasses and knocking the other to the floor, police said. The first pupil received a three-day suspension.
The second boy, 9, was suspended for 10 days. When police attempted to admit him to the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center, he was refused.
Also at the school, a principal reported to city police Wednesday that someone had been receiving collect calls from the Belmont County Correctional Institution in St. Clairsville.
The principal told police she noticed the calls on a telephone bill, and the school had been charged $480 on calls to two separate school lines.
