Sharon police look for fight witnesses

SHARON, Pa. -- Police want to talk to anyone who saw the fight at the Sharon-Farrell high school basketball game Saturday.
Police Chief Thomas Burke said the Mercer County district attorney's office is aiding in the investigation into the melee that injured about a dozen people, none of them seriously.
Police officers were among those injured, and police estimate that between 70 and 100 people, mostly students, were involved.
Burke said that anyone who attended the game and witnessed what happened is asked to contact the Sharon police, the district attorney's office or Southwest Mercer County Regional Police to make a statement.
"We're not trying to hide anything," Burke said, urging eyewitnesses to step forward.
He said police also want to interview all of the students in the area of the bleachers where the fight occurred.
Police think the dispute started between two people in the student section and spread as police tried to climb into the bleachers to remove the combatants.
Police said they were attacked by members of the crowd.
The fight spread into the cafeteria commons area just outside the gym.
One adult was arrested on assault charges, and police said they expect to file similar charges against a number of juveniles as well.
