LIBERTY Trustee: We need to hire new official

A Liberty trustee wants the board to fill the administrator's post before she leaves.

LIBERTY -- A township trustee thinks there is no need to conduct, at least for now, a wide search for a new township administrator.
Administrator Darlene St. George, who has held the post for about a year, has been named administrator of Howland Township, replacing retiring John Emanuel.
St. George will begin her new $59,000-a-year job March 18.
Trustee Jack Simon said that although St. George has not tendered her resignation, he and trustees Patrick Durina and Gary Litch can't wait until after she leaves to name a replacement.
Simon said he wants a smooth transition by having St. George work for a time with her replacement before leaving.
A nationwide search isn't needed, Simon explained, noting that because St. George was hired only a year ago, other candidate r & eacute;sum & eacute;s are on file.
Will contact candidates: The candidates will be contacted to determine if they're still interested in the job, Simon said, noting the township might advertise locally.
Also, Simon speculated that qualified candidates who have learned about the position will contact the township to seek out the job.
"I'm really disappointed to lose Darlene," Simon said.
Simon made it clear that an administrator is needed. Need for such a position has been questioned by some residents.
Simon said all trustees agree the post will be filled. While campaigning for re-election in last year's November general election, both Litch and Simon supported the need for an administrator.
They argued that trustees are part-time positions and a person is needed to direct the day-to-day operations and direct a multimillion-dollar budget.
