Returns will always be a part of the shopping process

KNIGHT RIDDER NEWSPAPERS
The dress is too small. The sweater color is unflattering. You'll never wear the pajamas Aunt Jane sent.
So you have to take them back. The January issue of Lucky, the magazine devoted to shopping, offers advice about the art of the return.
Here are some guidelines:
U Ask about return policies before you buy.
U Be as prompt as possible. Many stores have time limits.
U Be honest and pleasant.
U Keep receipts. Many stores offer gift receipts that allow you to return a present without the price tag. Some stores, including Nordstrom and Lands' End, take merchandise without a receipt.
UIf you lost the receipt, a credit card record is proof.
UThe garment is not faulty, but you've worn it and are unhappy with it. Some stores will take it back. Most won't.
UDo not be intimidated.
UAnd don't make returns a habit.
