Man charged with firing shots

CAMPBELL -- Police charged Norman Jones, 25, of 3855 Murray Ave., with felonious assault, using weapons while intoxicated, tampering with evidence, discharging a firearm into habitation, and criminal damaging in the firing of several shots from a handgun into a home in the 100 block of Jean Street.
Police reports allege that Jones fired several shots into the house and the resident's car, which was parking in front of the house, around 5:20 p.m. Sunday after he was refused admittance.
Reports state that Jones fled the scene, but was apprehended a short time later at a home on Murray Avenue, where police recovered a loaded .380-caliber Deutsche Werk black-steel handgun.
According to a police sergeant's report, the gun went off while police were securing it. When the gun fired, the bullet lodged in the chamber and sent part of the casing through the barrel. The report states the bullet was not completely chambered when the gun fired.
Reports state that Jones' blood-alcohol level shortly after the time of his arrest was 0.209, just over twice the legal limit.
He is being held without bond pending his arraignment in Campbell Municipal Court.
