Reunited alt-rockers Jane's Addiction are saying Happy New Year to their fans by announcing that "Hypersonic" -- the group's first batch of new material in more than 13 years -- will hit record stores next summer followed by a world tour, reports E!Online.
The LA-based band, led by the helium-voiced, rock 'n' shaman Perry Farrell, has recorded more than 20 songs under the guidance of producer Bob Ezrin, who has previously collaborated with Pink Floyd, Lou Reed and Kiss, among others.
"We have had an amazing time creating our latest record with our new friends of the Jane's Addiction family, producer Bob Ezrin and his partner Brian Virtue," writes guitarist Dave Navarro on the band's official Web site. "Bob has a unique and most welcomed perspective in terms of getting the very best out of us as creators and players."
Kim Cattrall, husbandreportedly call it quits
It never pays to brag. Just a year after she and her third hubby released a how-to sex manual, "Sex and the City" seductress Kim Cattrall and her mate are splitsville.
"My husband and I have a deep emotional and sexual connection," Cattrall said when she and jazz musician Mark Levinson released "Satisfaction: The Art of the Female Orgasm" (Warner Books, $24.95).
Now, apparently, she can't get no satisfaction.
Cattrall reportedly kicked Levinson out of their New York home because he was too obsessed with, of all things, sex!
Cattrall, 46, has complained in the past that people confuse her with her TV character, Samantha Jones. Recent calls to her publicist were not returned. She and Levinson, now 56, met in 1998 and were married nine months later.
Aretha Franklin to singat swearing-in rite
LANSING, Mich. -- The Queen of Soul will be on hand as Michigan's first woman governor is sworn in next week.
Aretha Franklin is scheduled to sing the national anthem during the inaugural festivities Wednesday, Gov.-elect Jennifer Granholm said.
"Aretha is a true Michigan treasure," Granholm said in a news release. "My entire family is honored that she has agreed to lend her voice to this ceremony's song."
Franklin will perform during the inaugural program at the Lansing Center. The program follows a swearing-in ceremony at the Capitol. Granholm said she often played Franklin's music on her campaign bus. "There's nothing like a little Aretha to liven up a long bus trip," she said.
Granholm also announced that her swearing-in will be simulcast on video screens at the Lansing Center for those who wish to view the inauguration indoors.
'Oldest teenager' hasrival this New Year's
"American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest is betting a swank casino setting can help him steal some New Year's Eve viewers away from his idol, Dick Clark.
Seacrest's New Year's special from Las Vegas will feature live performances by Sheryl Crow, Ashanti and Sugar Ray, plus taped segments from the Rolling Stones and Bon Jovi. More significantly, it will pit him against Clark, who broadcasts every year -- live from New York.
Entertainment lineups aside, we predict age will enter into the competition.
Clark, oft referred to as America's oldest teenager, is 73. We're betting most of his contemporaries will be fast asleep before the ball drops in Times Square.
At 28, Seacrest could be more appealing to the 'round-midnight crowd.
Time will tell.
