COLUMBUS Weight's assists take toll; Blues wallop Blue Jackets



St. Louis won 6-1 at Nationwide Arena for its third straight victory.
COLUMBUS (AP) -- Doug Weight assisted on St. Louis' first two goals as the Blues improved their unbeaten streak to four games with a 6-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night.
Brent Johnson made 26 saves for the Blues, who've won three in a row.
Keith Tkachuk and Al MacInnis each had a goal and an assist. Christian Laflamme and Pavol Demitra each had two assists.
The Blues handed Columbus its worst loss of the season, 7-1, at St. Louis on Oct. 17.
Losing streak
Columbus, which entered one point out of last place in the Western Conference, has lost four in a row and nine of 12.
The Blue Jackets took a 1-0 lead when Geoff Sanderson stuffed in a rebound -- his team-leading 17th goal -- midway through the first period.
Eric Boguniecki tied it just 24 seconds later at the 9:30 mark, redirecting Laflamme's shot from the blue line. Boguniecki has five goals in four games against Columbus this season.
St. Louis took a 2-1 lead late in the second period on Scott Mellanby's team-leading 14th goal. Mellanby, who has eight points in nine games, took a pass from Weight at the Columbus blue line, coasted through the slot and snapped a shot from the right circle past Marc Denis. Weight has 12 assists in the last seven games.
St. Louis scored four times in the third-period goals to put the game out of reach.
MacInnis made it 3-1 early, blasting a slap shot from the right circle past Denis that knocked the stick out of the goalie's hand.
Martin Rucinsky, alone in front, redirected Laflamme's shot at 8:38 to make it 4-1.
Tkachuk put in a loose puck from in front to make it 5-1 with eight minutes remaining, and Tyson Nash did the same with five minutes left.

G Tom Barrasso, signed by the Blues as a free agent on Nov. 4, was released. ... Columbus assists leader Andrew Cassels missed his second consecutive game because of a hyperextended elbow. ... St. Louis is 9-6-3-1 on the road. ... Columbus finished 0-for-4 on the power play. The Blue Jackets is 0-for-21 on the power play the last four games, their longest drought of the season. St. Louis, second in the league with the man advantage, finished 1-for-3. ... The teams play again tonight in St. Louis.
