McDONALD -- Council will meet in special session to decide what action to take on the resignation of the village clerk.
Wendy Kosovec, who has held the part-time elected position since 1999, has submitted a letter of resignation to Mayor James W. Border, citing personal issues.
Council will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday to decide whether to accept the resignation and possibly to determine how to fill the position for the rest of her term.
Village Administrator Robert O'Connell said Kosovec had not given any indication of her plans to leave the position and he believes her decision caught others off guard as well.
"I think a lot of it had to do with personal problems she is dealing with," he said.
Kosovec could not be reached. In her letter, she writes how politics in the village played a role in her decision.
"I have enjoyed working as the village clerk, until recently when the politics have taken over this position," she wrote.
O'Connell said he is unaware of what Kosovec was referring to in the letter.
Cites family priorities
She also wrote that rearing her daughter was her biggest priority at this time and the demand of working two jobs was too much.
Though several administrators have copies of the letter, the resignation is not official until council agrees to accept it. Kosovec can still retract the resignation.
O'Connell said he believes Saturday's meeting will be brief.
"I think they are really going to try and figure out how to replace her," he said of council.
Border, with council's approval, could opt to appoint someone to serve the remainder of the term.
The agenda for Saturday's meeting says members will meet in executive session to discuss personnel and other business.
Any action taken by council must be done in open session.
