Colorado freshman player sent home

SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- A freshman tackle for Colorado was sent home and will not be with the team Saturday for the Alamo Bowl following his arrest on public intoxication charges.
Will Down and senior linebacker Drew Wahlroos were charged and ordered to appear in court Jan. 7, the magistrate's office said. Down also was charged with failure to identify himself to police. The two were arrested Tuesday at 2 a.m. along the River Walk.
Down, a 6-foot-3, 280-pound defensive tackle from Escondido, Calif., was sent home later in the morning, school spokesman Dave Plati said. Wahlroos practiced with the Buffaloes on Tuesday. He ignored reporters as he boarded the team bus.
"There were different, varying stages of what they did," said Plati, referring to why only one player was sent home. He would not elaborate.
The 18-year-old Down did not play for Colorado during the season. He was listed as inactive for the Alamo Bowl because of a back injury and had not been scheduled to play against Wisconsin.
Colorado coach Gary Barnett said Down and Wahlroos will be disciplined "within the program."
