Parent of two students takes exception totuition increase at YSU
EDITOR,
As a parent with two children attending Youngstown State University, I am incensed by the newest increase in tuition at the university. Who do these administrators think they are? My children, as many others attending the University, are paying for their education by means of federal grants, loans and small scholarships, as well as holding down a little better than minimum wage job in order to pay their bills. How do these administrators expect these young people to continue to pay for the mistakes, blunders and greed of the administration?
The administrators complain that attendance is down. Do they want more students to leave the university and go elsewhere? My son is already seriously considering transferring to Kent, as I am sure many others are doing as well.
The university exists for the benefit of the community, as well as being supported by the willingness of the community to attend. If this willingness is destroyed by the current administration's actions, who do they believe is going to attend their university and bring in the much-needed revenues?
This insanity at Youngstown State University must be stopped. And we in the community must do something to bring a halt to this. The question is, what can we do? Who can we complain to? Who can call a halt to this injustice being forced on our community? I am asking The Vindicator to find a way for the community to make a difference and to make our voices heard in the proper arena, in order to call a halt to this. The Vindicator has published many columns highlighting the injustice being done by the administration of Youngstown State University and I applaud the newspaper for bringing this to light. Now I ask The Vindicator to go a step further and inform us, as a community, how to make our voices heard, how to make a change in this situation before it is too late.

True feelings slip out

Cal Thomas's criticism of Trent Lott is like the pot calling the kettle black. After the last presidential election where Al Gore beat George Bush in the popular vote but lost in the Electoral College, there were calls to do away with the Electoral College. Thomas's answer was that it protects the country from the riff-raff. Who is the riff-raff he was referring to?
I guess he thinks the inner circle and the self-anointed know better than we do. I remember back when the countries of Eastern Europe were starting to rebel against Russian domination, the puppet governments called these freedom-seekers hooligans and riff-raff. I suspect Lott and Thomas both let their true feelings slip out sometimes.

I would just like to say a few words about the upcoming holiday.
Christmas is almost here and we hardly hear that the day commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ. Instead, it's more about Santa Claus and toys.
Also at Easter time, when Christ had risen from the grave, we should be celebrating that, but we hear more about the Easter Bunny.
Let's all put Christ in Christmas this year.
I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas.
