Warren JFK drops Jefferson, falls to Bedford in triangular
WARREN -- Bobby Poweski, A.J. Seifert, Kevin Barton and Sam Rathburn each won two matches as the host Warren JFK High wrestling team split in a triangular Saturday.
The Eagles (1-3) defeated Jefferson 58-14 but lost to Bedford 47-29.
Poweski pinned Bedford's Raymond Mordeski in 33 seconds in a 189-pound match and decisioned Jefferson's Nick Aliff 9-2 at 215.
Seifert won by forfeit at 215 against Bedford and won a major decision over Jefferson's Josh Wessell 8-0 at heavyweight.
At 160, Barton pinned Jefferson's Josh Nasca in 3:27 and won by forfeit against Bedford.
At 152, Rathburn pinned Bedford's Matt Barnes in 1:20 and won by forfeit against Jefferson.
Canfield 39, Butler 24
CANFIELD -- The Cardinals came through on alumni day. Former Canfield wrestlers were recognized for their past achievements.
Canfield (6-2) won four straight matches, starting at 160. Bob Brenner, Jake Hartman (171), Robbie Bresson (189) and Jarek Esarco (215) helped to give the Cardinals the edge late.
Gaining decisions for Canfield were Steve Demaiolo (119), Klynt Maston (140), Hartman, Bresson and Esarco, while Justin Wolf (125) and Brenner won by pin. Bryan Benedict (103) and Cory Booth (112) won by forfeit for the Cardinals.
