RAY SWANSON | Keystoner Mercer Hall of Fame has 11 new inductees



Eleven Mercer County athletic standouts will be inducted into the Mercer County Hall of Fame, Jan. 18 at The Radisson in West Middlesex
The inductees, termed by MCHF president Don Bennett as an "excellent class," were selected by a special committee of the organization's board of directors. Not only are the inductees highly worthy of the honors, but their selections well represents all corners of Mercer County.
The speakers for the affair will be named at a later date. Following is a short biography of the class of 2003:
UBob Douds -- High school basketball and baseball. County leading scorer senior year, 2nd Team UPI Small School All-State. Graduated from Westminster 1952. College MVP junior and senior year; 2nd Team all-tourney NAIA Team 1962; elected to Westminster Hall of Fame and holds golf course record of 62 at Delaware Country Club, Delaware, Ohio.
UBill Douds -- High school basketball and baseball; 2nd-leading score in County (behind twin brother Bob), team captain baseball and basketball. Graduated from Westminster in 1962. Co-captain, starting member UPI-AP small college team in country 1962; Goodwill Tour of South America in 1962; coached youth baseball; president of Bethel Park Recreation Board.
UJack Findley -- High school baseball and basketball. Captain junior and senior years, one of top county scorers in 1952-53; junior year, Stoneboro, was on team that was Mercer County Class C & amp; D Champions with 25-2 record; PIAA basketball official for eight years; successful coach at all levels for Lakeview School System.
UTom Green -- High school basketball. 1952 Honorable Mention Section 3; Graduated Sharon High in 1952, attended Marietta. All-Ohio Conference 1954-1955 at Marietta; 2nd -- leading scorer on team in 1954. His 1954 team beat YSU with Tony Knott and Bob Mayberry playing for the Penguins. Mercer County basketball official for 10 years; coached back-to-back Hoyle champions in 1960-61.
UMichael Isacco -- High school football, baseball, basketball. Graduated from Greenville High in 1955, West Point, 1959; received football scholarship to Princeton but elected to attend West Point. Played football, baseball and wrestling team; played for Jamestown Redbirds baseball team; decorated U.S. Army Veteran (retired Lt. Colonel).
UDebbie Jones -- High School basketball. Graduated from Sharpsville in 1974; attended Pitt/Maryland. Co-captain MVP junior year (D-10 champs and state runner-up); co-captain MVP senior year (D-10 champ and Pa. state semifinals); At Pitt, 74-75 Team MVP, W. Reg quarter finalists in 1976. at Maryland, 76-77 AIAW S. Reg. championships. Played in ACC Tourney 87-88, team was National Championship runner-up at UCLA. In 1981 played for USA National team which won silver medal in Winnipeg.
USam Punteri -- High school football, wrestling, track. Graduated from Grove City High in 1942, attended Pitt one year. D-10 champions in 40-41-42, All-County, All-District football, two-time state runner-up in wrestling, had 6-0 lead senior year but broke his arm with 20 seconds to go in match. Played football at Pitt but was injured as freshman and couldn't compete.
UCarl Racketa -- High school basketball. Sharon grad in 1952, attended Ohio U. two years; Sharon captain in 1951; All-State Honorable Mention 1951, WPIAL Section 31st team; outstanding fast-pitch hurler; as 15-year old pitcher, he had one-no-hitter and several one-hitters (18-0 record). Was a member of the famed "Whiz Kids" at Buhl Club and played for 135th Eng. Battalion in Ft. Lewis, Wash.
UBill Samuels -- High school football, basketball, track. Graduated from Farrell 1966, Westminster 1970. Was All-Section 3 basketball 1965-66. All-State basketball in 1966; played in Dapper Dan Classic in Pittsburgh in 1966. All-NAIA District 18 in 1969 at Westminster. Was PIAA basketball official in 1983.
UJim Wildman -- Was 1965 Sharon High grad, Clarion University in 1969. High school football and golf. All-MAC lineman his senior year; 4-year letter winner in golf, Pa. State Qualifier in 1964. Coached football 25 years at Sharon with 208 wins, 61 losses and 9 ties (winningest football coach ever in Mercer County); won 14 league championships, nine D-10 titles; two West Pa. championships; two PIAA runners-up in Class AAA and was named to Pa. Hall of Fame in 2000.
UJohn Crumbacher (posthumous) -- Was 1962 Hickory High graduate. Attended Tennessee for three years. He died while attending Tennessee after playing for three years for the Vols. Played high school football and basketball, nominated to play in National High School All-America Game in 1962. UPI all-State basketball honorable mention 1962, the 1961 team lost in Pa. State Finals. Received full scholarship to Tennessee, three-year starter, played in Bluebonnet Bowl in Texas.
