Board of trustees
A college student from Youngstown has been appointed to the Kent State University Board of Trustees, Gov. Bob Taft's office said.
The governor's office said Jason R. Loree, 20, of Youngstown is appointed to the university's board of trustees for a term ending May 16, 2004.
Loree, a political science major, replaces Andrea K. Poliak, whose term expired. Loree is a resident assistant for the Department of Residence Services at KSU.
SCOUTS
Highest rank
Robert M. Chismar Jr., son of Robert and Amy Chismar of Canfield, has been awarded the Eagle Scout rank, Boy Scouting's highest honor.
Troop 115, chartered to St. Michael Church, Canfield, had a court of honor for Chismar's achievement Dec. 1.
His Eagle Scout service project involved making improvements to the handicapped accessible entrance behind the church. This included the demolition of a deteriorating aluminum awning, addition of fabricated metal handrails, and the installation of a safety gate located at the top of a maintenance stairwell. Additional plantings and landscaping were then added to complete the project.
A senior at Canfield High School, Chismar joined Troop 115 from the Cub Scouts in 1996 and has earned numerous awards. Troop 115 has twice recognized him as "Scout of the Year."
He is a member of the high-school symphonic band and is a member of St. Michael, where he is on parish council, and is active in the church's music ministry.
DOCTORS
To open practice
Dr. Ronald James Losiewicz, a 1993 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, graduated this month from National University of Health Sciences, Lombard, Ill., with a doctor of chiropractic degree. He was on the honor roll of students for exemplary academic achievement.
He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1998, where he was co-captain of the track team and was hammer-throw record holder. He received a bachelor's degree in human biology from National University of Health Sciences in 2000 and is a certified sports conditioning Specialist in Hinsdale, Ill.
He plans to open his own practice at the Proactive Chiropractic Center in Clarendon Hill, Ill., in the spring of 2003.
He is a son of William and Denise Losiewicz of Austintown.
LAWYERS
Passes bar exam
Jeffery D. Williams of Canfield has passed the Ohio State Bar Examination and was sworn in as an attorney last month in Columbus by the Ohio Supreme Court.
He is working with the law firm of Harrington, Hoppe & amp; Mitchell Ltd., which has offices in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.
Williams is a 1978 graduate of the New England Conservatory, with a degree in violin performance, with honors. In May, he graduated from the University of Akron School of Law where he was editor-in-chief of the Akron Law Review.
Williams is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Deane R. Williams of Sebring. The Rev. Mr. Williams formerly served as associate pastor at Trinity United Methodist Church in Youngstown.
Becomes a lawyer
Ty S. Mahaffey of Toledo has passed the Ohio State Bar Examination and was sworn as a lawyer last month in Columbus.
Mahaffey is a 1986 graduate of Warren JFK High School.
In 1991, he received a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Toledo. He received his juris doctorate of law in May from the University of Toledo College of Law.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mahaffey of Niles.
