Neshannock Twp. sets weight limits for roads

NESHANNOCK -- The township supervisors have passed an ordinance to help protect township roads.
Weight limits were set on four roads in the township. Three of the roads -- Fawn, Spiker and Justice -- have a 10-ton weight limit.
Those thoroughfares are located off Mitchell Road near Neshannock High School. A development is being planned behind this area, and that could cause heavy equipment to travel across the roads.
A 15-ton weight limit has been set on Graceland Road from Maitland Lane to the New Castle city line.
Township Secretary Leslie Bucci said the recent increase of logging in that area has created a concern with the heavy trucks traveling on the roads.
Bond for roads
Bucci said any developer or other person doing work which requires heavy equipment on roads is required to issue a bond to the township.
The amount of the bond is determined by a formula created by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
The bond money is returned to the businesses after the township engineer inspects the road and verifies that there is only normal wear and tear.
The supervisors also announced that the last leaf collection will be Dec. 31. Collection will resume in the spring.
