CINCINNATI -- David West watched most of the first half from the bench because of two quick fouls, then made up for lost time and finished with a season-high 24 points as No. 21 Xavier beat Ball State 87-58 Friday night.
A well-rested West repeatedly drove to the basket for dunks and layups as the Musketeers (6-2) blew the game open with a 23-6 run at the start of the second half.
West made 10 of his 11 shots from the field, all but one of them on moves to the basket. He also had nine rebounds.
As long as West was on the floor, Ball State (5-4) couldn't keep up. The Cardinals had no one who could stop the 6-foot-9 power forward.
West also took turns guarding long-range shooter Chris Williams, who scored most of his 24 points after the game was out of reach. Williams was called for two offensive fouls in the first half, when he tried to push off to create room to get off a shot.
Twelve NBA scouts showed up to watch West. After sitting the bench for the last 15:28 of the first half, West returned and put on a show worthy of a potential first-round pick.
Penn State 59, Bucknell 55
STATE COLLEGE -- Sharif Chambliss scored 10 of his game-high 15 points in the second half as Penn State defeated Bucknell.
DeForrest Riley scored 12 points and Jan Jagla had 10 points, seven rebounds and four blocks for the Nittany Lions (2-6), who won their second consecutive game after losing their first six.
Boakai Lalugba led the Bison (4-4) with 12 points.
Dan Blankenship hit a layup and was fouled with 10 seconds left, pulling Bucknell within two, but missed the ensuing free throw. Robert Summers hit two free throws at the other end to seal the win.
The teams combined for 48 turnovers, with Bucknell committing 15 of their 25 in the first half.
Marshall 83, Western Carolina 68
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Marvin Black had 23 points and 11 rebounds as Marshall beat Western Carolina 83-68.
Black, who averages 10 points per game, made 10-of-11 shots as the Thundering Herd became the second team in the state to rout Western Carolina (3-5) this week.
Marshall (5-2) led by as many as 20 points as the Herd bounced back from Tuesday night's 101-100 overtime loss at Morehead State.
Ohio 54, Navy 52
ATHENS, Ohio -- Brandon Hunter had 17 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks as Ohio outlasted Navy.
The Bobcats survived a missed shot at the buzzer by Navy's David Hooper to snap a three-game losing streak.
Ohio (2-4) appeared to have the victory sealed when Navy guard Jason Jeanpierre lost the ball out of bounds with 3.1 seconds left.
But Ohio's Steve Esterkamp committed his fifth foul on the inbounds play to set up Hooper's shot which clanked off the backboard.
Scott Long led Navy (3-6) with 16 points and 15 rebounds and Marcell Cummings added 10 points for the Midshipmen.
