Agencies receive $1.45M in federal grants



YOUNGSTOWN -- Seven Mahoning County agencies that provide housing and support services to the homeless will receive more than $1.45 million in grants from the federal government.
Overall, Ohio received more than $55.6 million of the $1.1 billion in grants awarded to agencies nationwide that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced Thursday.
The money will be used in Mahoning County to provide housing to homeless people and fund services such as job training, health care, mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment and child care.
The agencies receiving funding are:
UYWCA of Youngstown, $997,528.
UCatholic Charities Housing Opportunities, $71,334.
UNortheast Ohio Legal Services, $52,793.
UYoungstown Area Community Action Council, $41,590.
UPotential Development Program Inc., $54,075.
UThe Greater Youngstown Point Inc., $80,150.
UYoungstown Emergency Shelter program, $196,000.
