GIRLS BASKETBALL Ursuline's Cook helps bake Chanel, 58-39



Mooney (5-1) beat Harding (0-8) and Salem (5-1) won a first-ever meeting with New Philadelphia.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Christina Cook had 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Ursuline High girls basketball team to a 58-39 victory over Bedford Chanel on Wednesday.
The Irish (6-0) led 29-26 at halftime, then scored the first eight points of the third quarter to pull away from Chanel (3-1).
Courtney Davidson and Tyra Grant each added 10 points for Ursuline. Grant also grabbed 10 rebounds.
Mooney 67, Warren Harding 56
YOUNGSTOWN -- Gina Brunetti poured in 27 points as the Cardinals kept Warren Harding winless in a Steel Valley Conference game.
Anastasia Vouvalis had 13 points and 12 rebounds for Mooney (5-1, 2-1 SVC), while Amber Bodrick had 11 points.
Also for Mooney, Aieshya Dixon grabbed nine rebounds to go with her seven points, and Megan Maloney handed out six assists.
Sharina Freeman had 27 points for Harding (0-8, 0-2), and Desirae Jenkins added 12.
Salem 49, New Philadelphia 38
SALEM -- The Quakers prevailed in the first-ever meeting between the schools.
Alyson Cotter scored 15 points, Sarah Hamilton had 12 and Abby Markovich 10 for Salem (5-1). Lauren Teal added seven blocked shots.
It was the fifth time in six games that Salem held its opponent to fewer than 40 points.
Southeast 58, Crestwood 45
MANTUA -- Kay Dillon scored 23 points and Kara Gintert added 21 more for the Pirates.
After leading just 28-26 at the break, Southeast outscored Crestwood 30-19 over the final 16 minutes.
