DURHAM, N.C. -- Alana Beard had 24 points and six of Duke's season-high 25 steals as the Blue Devils forced 37 turnovers. Duke (8-0) used defensive pressure and transition baskets to open the game with a 23-5 run. The Blue Devils are off to their best start since going 9-0 two seasons ago, and have won 16 straight games at Cameron Indoor Stadium. They won their first 12 games in 1987-88, and went 8-0 the next season. Charleston Southern (4-3) made just two baskets in its first 11 possessions. Beard, who has now scored 20 or more points in six of her last eight games, made 10 of 11 shots. Vickie Krapohl was 5-of-7 from 3-point range and added 15 points for Duke.
No. 17 Louisiana Tech 80,Stephen F. Austin 44
RUSTON, La. -- Trina Frierson had 20 points and nine rebounds as Louisiana Tech (6-2) got its fourth straight victory. Frierson connected on seven of eight shots, and was 6-of-10 from the free-throw line. Erica Smith added 14 points, Cheryl Ford 11 and Amber Obaze with 10. The Lady Jacks (0-6) held a 22-19 lead with 71/2 minutes to play in the first half, but Tech went on a 10-0 run on the way to a 35-26 halftime lead.
No. 18 South Carolina 65,Middle Tennessee 50
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Cristina Ciocan tied her career high of 23 points as South Carolina continued its best season-opening run in 14 years. Ciocan also had nine rebounds and six assists while tying her career-best point total set in the Gamecocks' opener last month against Clemson. South Carolina (7-0) hasn't started as well since going 9-0 in 1988-89. She had three baskets, including the go-ahead field goal, during a 12-0 run in the final four minutes of the first half. She kept it going after the break with four points as South Carolina began with a 17-5 spurt that put the game out of reach for Middle Tennessee (3-4).

ALLIANCE -- Allie Graf, a graduate of Poland High, scored 21 points to help Mount Union (5-2). Ashley Bourdeau tacked on 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Purple Raiders. Amanda Swanson paced Thiel (3-5) with 18 points.
Hiram 76, D'Youville 49
HIRAM -- Tiffany Tompkins and Theresa Rhodes each scored 11 points while Jessica Harris and Johanna Wight each were in with 10 points for Hiram (1-5). Hiram shot out to a 44-19 lead at the break and snapped a 15-game losing streak. D'Youville is 2-8.
