YOUNGSTOWN -- "Neverland," a drama by local playwright Gloria Dunnam Bayowski, will get the full-production treatment next year at Youngstown Playhouse. Cleveland shows
CLEVELAND -- Traditional Irish music and 1920s-era boogie-woogie will be heard in February at Playhouse Square Center. The Grammy Award-winning Chieftains will play at 8 p.m. Feb. 1 in State Theatre, and The Cab Calloway Orchestra will have its turn at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 10 in Palace Theatre. Tickets for both shows are available through Tickets.com or by calling (800) 766-6048.
The Chieftains are soldiering on without longtime harpist Derek Bell, who died in October, one month after the release of the group's latest recording, "Down the Old Plank Road: The Nashville Sessions," which emphasizes the ties between American and Irish music.
Calloway's grandson, C. Calloway Brooks, will lead the orchestra in a program of swing and jive hits from Calloway's early days as a musician and bandleader.
