HORIZON LEAGUE Triplett leads Toledo to 80-72 win over Detroit



Illinois-Chicago topped Southern Illinois, 73-71.

TOLEDO -- Keith Triplett scored 21 points to lead four players in double figures as Toledo beat Detroit 80-72 Saturday.
The Rockets (5-3) started the second half on a 14-3 run to take a 56-41 lead. Detroit cut the lead to 71-68 with 4:15 to play on a layup by Willie Green, but Ricardo Thomas hit a 3-pointer for Toledo to make it 74-68. Green hit another layup, but Triplett made two free throws to push the lead back to six and the Titans (3-2) could get no closer.
The Titans used a 12-3 run to take a 27-14 lead with 10:23 to play in the first half, but the Rockets outscored Detroit 28-14 the rest of the half and never trailed after taking a 33-32 lead with 3:32 to play in the first half.
Green led Detroit with 32 points. Elijah Warren had 13 and Terrell Riggs had 11. Nick Moore had 19 for Toledo, Sammy Villegas had 15 and Thomas scored 12.
Kent St. 91, Cleveland St. 68
CLEVELAND -- Nate Gerwig and Antonio Gates each scored 20 points and Anthony Wilkins added 19, as Kent State stayed undefeated through five games.
The efficient Gold Flashes shot 57.9 percent, and Gerwig took eight shots without a miss.
Gates just missed a triple-double. He had 10 assists and nine rebounds.
Tahric Gosley led the Vikings with 21 points.
Butler 59, Miami (Ohio) 42
OXFORD -- Duane Lightfoot scored 16 points for Butler (7-0). Danny Horace led Miami with 10 points. Darnell Archey had 12 points for Butler.
Illinois-Chicago 73,Southern Illinois 71
CHICAGO -- Cedrick Banks had 22 points and Martell Bailey put back his own miss for the game-winnning shot.
Bailey followed up his own miss for Illinois-Chicago (3-2) and scored the winning basket with a put-back with 3.2 seconds left.
Southern Illinois' Stetson Hairston tied the game at 71 with a free throw with 33 seconds to go.
Illinois-Chicago outscored Southern Illinois 10-1 in a three minute span in the second half. Aaron Carr hit a 3-pointer to give Illinois-Chicago a 55-53 lead with 11:54 left and Kyle Kickert made a lay-up to give the Flames a 62-54 lead with 9:35 to go.
Hairston finished with 22 points for Southern Illinois and Kent Williams added 11.
Jermaine Dearman had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Salukis.
Belmont 75, Loyola of Chicago 57
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Adam Mark scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Belmont.
With Mark's help, Belmont (3-3) controlled the boards, finishing with 41 rebounds to Loyola's 27. Belmont also outshot Loyola 63 percent to 32 percent.
Brian Collins finished with 11 points, while Adam Sonn added 12 for the Bruins.
David Bailey led Loyola with 19 points.
