Voytilla to headlab sciences group
Dr. Randall J. Voytilla, formerly of Struthers, has been chosen postgraduate officer for the basic sciences subsection of the American Pharmaceutical Association Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Sciences.
He will be representing the chemists, biologists and other lab sciences affiliated with APhA. He will go to New Orleans from March 28-April 1 for the annual APhA meeting and exposition, where he will formally accept the position.
His responsibilities will be to address science issues affecting mainstream pharmacy.
One of the things he will push for is increasing research and education on gene therapy, stem cells and other biotechnology issues and how they will affect patient care and pharmacy. His term is for 2003-04.
APhA was founded in 1852 as the nation's organization for the profession of pharmacy.
Voytilla is the son of George Jr. and Mary Voytilla of Struthers. A 1994 graduate of Struthers High School, he received his doctor of pharmacy degree from Duquesne University's School of Pharmacy in 2000 and is currently a Ph.D. student in pharmaceutics at the school.
He and his wife, Dr. Emily Zane, live in Pittsburgh.

Canfield graduatepasses Calif. bar exam
Julia Pecano, a 1987 graduate of Canfield High School, recently passed the California Bar Examination and was sworn in to the state bar of California and to the U.S. District Court, Central District on Dec. 3 in Los Angeles.
Atty. Pecano graduated from Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles in May and is employed at Lions Gate Films, a division of Lions Gate Entertainment Corp., in Marina del Rey, Calif. Pecano is the daughter of Sandra and Don Pecano of Canfield.
