Council changes the name of street to honor athletes
LOWELLVILLE -- Village council has changed the name of Dickson Street to Rocket Place.
The change is in honor of the Lowellville Rockets athletic teams, said Phil Alfano, village administrator. Rocket Place provides access to the new school.
Council also voted earlier this week to prohibit right turns onto Rocket Place from West Wood Street to ensure that traffic will flow smoothly once the new school opens.
In other business, council authorized the village engineer to increase funds the village would put up to secure state grant money from 11 percent to 16 percent.
If the village receives state Issue 2 funding, Alfano said, it would install new curbs along Wood Street from Youngstown-Lowellville Road to Watson Street.
Council also approved hiring a part-time utility worker for the sewage treatment plant and a part-time janitor.
Mayor Joseph Rossi appointed John Paul Hvisdak to the board of zoning and appeals, and Jim Alfano and Keith McCaughtry to the firefighters dependency board.
