COLLEGE BASKETBALL Bethany's Mike Majzun reaches 1,000 career points



BETHANY, W.Va. -- Senior guard Mike Majzun of Struthers scored a game-high 24 points and went over 1,000 points for his career, as the Bethany College men's basketball team defeated visiting Penn State-Altoona 85-74 Thursday night.
The win was the second in a row for Bethany (2-5).
Majzun was held to just six points in the first half. He scored a bucket on the opening possession of the second half and then put the game away with 13 points in a three-minute span midway through the half. In four possessions, the 6-foot-3 guard hit a 3-pointer and three layups as Bethany pushed their lead to 62-38.
With 9:47 remaining in the game, Majzun took a feed from Josh Polantz and drilled a 3-pointer while being fouled to become the 16th player in Bethany history to reach 1,000.
Majzun, who was 5-for-10 on 3-pointers, finished the game with 1,005 career points.
Three other Bethany players recorded double-doubles -- Derek Hoffman (19 points, 10 rebounds), freshman forward Matt Drahos (17 points, 10 rebounds) and Polantz (13 points, 10 assists).
Altoona (0-7) was led by Brandon Battles with 20 points.

CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- Ishmieal Kamara scored 22 points, including 6-for-6 at the free throw line, for California. Ryan Stefanski added 21 points, including 5 3-pointers. Nick Catanzarite led Allegheny with 15 points.
