EAST PALESTINE Members of teen club to carol throughout city

EAST PALESTINE -- About 200 members of East Palestine Middle School's Teen Institute will be out spreading Christmas cheer Friday.
The group will be singing Christmas carols from 5 to 7 p.m. at several locations, said Darren Miller, the school district's safe and drug-free schools coordinator.
Some of the members will be in the downtown area. Others will travel throughout the city to private homes.
Miller said caroling is an annual event for the Teen Institute members.
Members caroling downtown will be on Market Street in the Sulfur Creek Overlook area near Rebecca Street. Those who travel throughout the city visit the homes of the city's Meals on Wheels clients and others.
Miller said anyone who knows of homebound residents who would enjoy a visit by the carolers may call him at the middle school at (330) 426-9451.
Groups' activities
Teen Institute and the high school's Teen Power group members sponsor a variety of activities throughout the school year, including community service events, Prom Promise events, the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout in November, and their own Kick Butts events in the spring.
The groups also sponsor dances, motivational speakers and Red Ribbon Week each year. During Red Ribbon Week, the teens ask their peers to show support for a drug- and alcohol-abuse-free lifestyle by participating in themed activities each day such as wearing school colors or outrageous neckties.
