Youngstown man gets 280 days in jail

STRUTHERS -- Jason A. Rotan, 25, of Youngstown will spend 280 days in jail, one year on reporting probation and pay $400 plus court costs on charges stemming from his arrest for driving a stolen car last Wednesday.
Judge James R. Lanzo of municipal court sentenced Rotan Monday to 180 days in jail and one year of reporting probation, and fined him $200 plus court costs on a charge of attempted possession of criminal tools.
The charge was reduced from possession of criminal tools.
The judge also sentenced him to 100 days in jail and $200 in fines plus court costs on a charge of theft. That charge was reduced from receiving stolen property. The jail sentences are to be served consecutively.
Police reports say Rotan was arrested around 12:20 a.m. Wednesday after he ran a stop sign in a stolen car, then tried to elude police by fleeing on foot. Police found a screwdriver in his possession that he admitted to using to peel the steering column of the car he was driving.
