YMHA accepts applications for housing
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority is taking applications for its Section 8 waiting list through Dec. 22.
Applications must be returned by mail and postmarked by midnight Dec. 22. No applications will be accepted at YMHA's office. Applications are limited to one per family.
Forms are available at YMHA's office at 131 W. Boardman St., all YMHA management offices, county agencies including the department of Job and Family Services and Children Services, all public libraries, Catholic Charities, the Urban League, OCCHA and the Jewish Community Center. Forms also can be downloaded from YMHA's Web site at www.ymhaonline.com.
A lottery will be at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 30 at the YMHA office to select 500 applicants. Applicants aren't required to attend the drawing. YMHA contacts participants by mail when their lottery number is reached, and an interview is scheduled.
Interested people must meet income requirements. Income cannot exceed $16,300 for one person; $18,600 for a two-person family; $20,950 for a family of three; $23,250 for a family of four; $25,100 for a family of five; and $26,950 for a family of six.
YMHA administers the Section 8 voucher program for low-income families in Mahoning County. The program helps families rent privately-owned homes and apartments. YMHA pays a portion of the rent to the landlord, and the participant must pay the rest based on income. Housing under Section 8 is inspected by YMHA for health and safety.
