YOUNGSTOWN Charred body found in trunk of burned-out car on E. Side

YOUNGSTOWN -- The charred body found in the trunk of a burned-out Lincoln Continental is likely a Columbus woman reported missing Saturday by her husband, police said.
Dental records may tell detectives the identity of the woman discovered around 8 a.m. Sunday in the 600 block of Oak Street on the East Side. The location -- the car was parked behind the former Red Carpet Lounge -- allowed an easy getaway via the freeway, police said.
Detective Sgt. John Kelty will travel to Columbus on Tuesday to meet with a detective there and interview the man who reported his wife missing, said Lt. Robin Lees, police department public information officer.
Lees said there's no direct link at this time between the husband and Youngstown.
An autopsy on the woman would be done to determine how she died. Since the departure this past summer of Mahoning County's forensic pathologist, bodies have been sent to Cuyahoga County for autopsy.
The case is being investigated by homicide detectives and the fire department arson bureau.
Damage to the 1999 gold Cartier model was estimated at $20,000, a total loss, according to the fire department.
The fire remains under investigation.
