WASHINGTON -- Torin Francis scored 21 points and Chris Thomas had 19 points and eight assists to lead Notre Dame to a 98-92 victory over No. 2 Texas on Sunday in the championship game of the BB & amp;T Classic.
Thomas made two free throws with 25 seconds remaining to give Notre Dame (8-1) a 96-92 lead.
Notre Dame's victory was its third straight over a ranked team, following wins over No. 13 Marquette and No. 9 Maryland, the latter on Saturday in the first round of the tournament.
Sydmill Harris scored a career-high 25 points for Texas (5-1) and Brian Boddicker added 14 and the two combined to shoot 10-of-11 from 3-point range.
Texas' T.J. Ford, who led the nation in assists last season as a freshman, had 21 points and 11 assists, but down the stretch he had a driving layup blocked, turned the ball over and missed a 3-pointer that could have brought the Longhorns within a point in the game's final seconds.
No. 8 Florida 68, South Florida 52
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Anthony Roberson had 19 points and David Lee added 16 for the Gators (6-2), who have won 33 consecutive home games against non-conference opponents and are 24-1 in December over the past three seasons.
Jimmy Baxter had 13 points for South Florida (4-1), which was looking to open the season with five straight wins for the fourth time in school history.
South Florida got within 62-50 on Will McDonald's basket, but after a free throw by Florida's Matt Walsh, Roberson hit a 3 for his first points of the half and Lee added a basket to make it 68-50 with just under two minutes to go.
No. 9 Maryland 93,George Washington 82
WASHINGTON -- Steve Blake had career-highs of 27 points and five 3-pointers, and Drew Nicholas added 27 points to lead the Terrapins in the third-place game of the BB & amp;T Classic.
The Terrapins (4-2), who were only 4-for-17 on 3-point attempts in the loss to Notre Dame, were 12-of-17 from beyond the arc against the Colonials (3-3).
Nicholas tied a career-best with five 3s as the defending national champions averted their first three-game losing streak since February 2001.
Chris Monroe led George Washington with 19 points.
Nebraska 80, No. 20 Minnesota 60
LINCOLN, Neb. -- Andrew Drevo had career-highs of 27 points and 14 rebounds to lead Nebraska to the upset win.
Drevo, a transfer from Division II Morningside, scored 10 points as the Cornhuskers took a 16-0 lead.
The Gophers (4-1) playing their third game in five days, missed their first five shots from the field and committed five turnovers before Scott Bauer scored 5:59 into the game.
The Cornhuskers (3-3) scored on seven of their first 10 possessions to start the rout, with Drevo hitting two 3-pointers and dunking two putbacks.
Maurice Hargrow led the Gophers with 15 points.
No. 21 Michigan St. 79,Cleveland St. 47
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Erazem Lorbek scored a career-high 16 points and didn't miss a shot as the Spartans (4-2) used a big first-half run to put away a second straight opponent.
Lorbek, a 6-foot-10 reserve freshman from Slovenia, made all four of his field goal attempts, including a 3-pointer, and was 7-for-7 at the free throw line.
Michigan State held the Vikings (4-4) without a field goal for the final 7:30 of the first half during the 18-1 run, which gave it a 37-14 halftime lead.
The Spartans used a 17-0 first-half run to beat No. 22 Virginia 82-75 on Wednesday night.
Jermaine Robinson scored 14 points for Cleveland State, which had won two straight.
Cent. Michigan 73, Drake 61
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Whitney Robinson scored 20 points and knocked down five 3-pointers to lead Central Michigan.
Chris Kaman had a double-double for the host Chippewas (4-1), scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 points. Mike Manciel chipped in 16 points for the team.
J.J. Sola led Drake (3-4) with 17 points. Luke McDonald added 12 points and T.J. Welton grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
