No. 6 Purdue 73, No. 8 Vanderbilt 66
TEMPE, Ariz. -- Erika Valek scored a career-high 23 points, and sixth-ranked Purdue shut down Chantelle Anderson in the second half to earn a victory Saturday over No. 8 Vanderbilt. The Boilermakers (6-0) are off to their best start since the 1992-93 team won its first eight games. Jenni Benningfield had 15 points and nine rebounds for Vanderbilt (4-1). High-scoring Anderson was 5-of-6 for 10 points in the first half, but missed all five shots in the second half and finished with 13 points. Abi Ramsey had 11 points and Ashley McElhiney had 10 points and 12 assists. McElhiney scored all of her points in the second half, making two 3-pointers in a 50-second span late in the game. Each cut Vanderbilt's deficit to five points. But Wright responded to the first with a three-point play with 4:00 left, opening a 58-50 lead, and Valek made two free throws after McElhiney's second long shot, sending Purdue to a 60-53 lead with 2:44 to go. In the final 1:15, Valek had a fast-break layup and four free throws to hold off Vanderbilt.
No. 7 Kansas St. 60, Weber St. 36
MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Kendra Wecker had 18 points and seven rebounds as Kansas State won its fifth straight Commerce Bank Classic championship. Laurie Koehn added 13 points and Nicole Ohlde 10 to help Kansas State (8-1) to its seventh straight home victory of the season. Julie Gjertsen led Weber State (2-3) with 20 points, and Crystal Howe had 10 rebounds.
No. 9 Notre Dame 81, Arizona St. 52
TEMPE, Ariz. -- Jacqueline Batteast scored 20 of her season-high 24 points in the first half for unbeaten Notre Dame. Batteast, the Big East Conference rookie of the year last season, matched her career high for field goals with 10-of-15 shooting. Freshman Jill Noe had 19 points, eight rebounds and three steals for Arizona State (5-1). Teresa Borton had 14 points, Le'Tania Severe 11 and Katy Flecky 10 for the Fighting Irish (4-0), who won for the first time in Arizona. Notre Dame lost to Arizona State in 1983 and to Arizona last season. Kristen Kovesdy added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Sun Devils.
No. 15 Louisiana Tech 68, Tulane 53
NEW ORLEANS -- Amber Obaze scored 13 of her season-high 21 points in the second half. Obaze, 0-of-13 from the field and scoreless Wednesday when Louisiana Tech (3-2) lost to No. 4 Tennessee, had seven rebounds and five assists against Tulane. Teana McKiver led the Green Wave (3-2) with season highs of 21 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocked shots. Delacey Joseph scored 13 points for the Green Wave, and Lakethia Hampton had a career-high 10.
New Mexico 77, No. 17 Texas 70
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Jordan Adams had season highs of 22 points and five blocks. Adams set the pace for New Mexico (5-1), and was matched up for much of the game against high-scoring Stacy Stephens. She didn't score until 3:15 remained in the first half, but finished with 23 points and 12 rebounds for the Longhorns (2-2). The Lobos came into the game 4-14 against Top-25 opponents all time.
No. 21 Arizona 95, UC Riverside 66
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Dee-Dee Wheeler scored a career-high 28 points and made five 3-pointers in the second half for Arizona.
Shawntinice Polk added 18 points and 16 rebounds -- her fourth consecutive double-double -- for Arizona (3-1). Krista Warren added 16 points and Aimee Grzyb 15 for the Wildcats. LaKeima Stephens led Riverside (0-4) with 17 points.
No. 22 Boston College 69, Temple 62
BOSTON -- Jessalyn Deveny scored 16 of 23 points in the second half as Boston College battled back from an 11-point deficit. Deveny and Amber Jacobs combined on 6-of-6 shooting from the foul line to secure the victory in the final minute for the Eagles (4-1). Khadija Bowens' layup 57 seconds into the second half gave the Owls (4-2) their biggest lead of the game at 33-22. A 13-2 run by Boston College (4-1), behind seven points by Becky Gottstein, tied the game 35-35 at 4:47. The teams played through four more ties over the next few minutes, before Boston College pulled away to a 61-54 lead with 2:33 to play on two free throws by Jacobs. Candice Dupree led Temple with 23 points.
No. 24 George Washington 67, Syracuse 66
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Lindsay Davidson's 3-pointer in the final minute gave George Washington the victory. George Washington trailed 66-64, when Davidson scored the game's last points on her long shot with 52 seconds left. She finished with 20 points, including six 3-pointers. Each team failed to score on its next possession, but George Washington (3-1) was able to run down the clock, leaving Syracuse (2-5) with six seconds left to try to win. But the hosts thought their coach called timeout. The clock wasn't stopped, though, and Syracuse's Julie McBride was left to take a desperation shot from 40 feet away.
