Sterner earns doctorate
Karl A. Sterner of Bradenton, Fla., son of Tom and Shirley Hines of North Jackson, recently received his doctorate in education from Argosy University of Sarasota. He is a 1987 graduate of Chaney High School and received his bachelor's degree in education in 1992 and his master's in education in 1996, both from Youngstown State University.
He is assistant principal of W.D. Sugg Middle School and adjunct instructor at Manatee Community College, both in Florida.
His wife is Michele I. Sterner.
SCOUTS
Granchie becomes Eagle
Struthers Troop 101 announces its 50th Eagle Scout, its "Golden Eagle," Robert C. Granchie. Granchie held his Eagle Court of Honor on Nov. 17 at the troop's charter organization sponsor, the Struthers Presbyterian Church.
Robert achieved his Eagle rank when he was 15 and is currently a sophomore at Struthers High School.
Robert started in Scouts as a member of Pack 101 in 1994 and earned his Arrow of Light and crossed over to the troop March 31, 1998. He has held positions as assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, quartermaster, assistant senior patrol leader and senior patrol leader. He is also a member of Order of the Arrow and is a Scout guide.
He worked at the Ameritech Handicap Jamboree and received his first-year Pipe Stone and Trailblazer pin.
His Eagle project was re-landscaping the Struthers Historical Society's garden for the city's 2002 birthday celebration. The work included repainting, planting flowers, adding a wrought iron bench and birdbath, laying down steppingstones, planting a tree and spreading red mulch.

LaCivita passes bar
Robert J. LaCivita of Cleveland, formerly of Canfield, recently passed the Ohio State Bar examination and was sworn in as an attorney Nov. 18 in Columbus.
Atty. LaCivita is a 1995 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School. In 1999, he earned his bachelor's degree in finance from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. In May of this year he received his juris doctorate degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
LaCivita is employed at the law firm of Shapiro and Felty of Cleveland.
A son of Atty. and Mrs. Richard J. LaCivita of Canfield, he is engaged to Maureen Kushma of Boardman.
Tomko passes bar exam
Christine Marie Tomko of Boardman has passed the Ohio State Bar Examination and was sworn in as an attorney last week in Columbus by the Ohio Supreme Court.
Atty. Tomko is a 1995 graduate of Youngstown State University with a degree in civil engineering. In May she graduated summa cum laude and first in her class from Case Western Reserve University Law School where she was a member of the Law Review and Order of the Coif. Atty. Tomko serves as the law clerk for the Honorable Judge James Gwin of the Northern District of Ohio Federal Court. In August 2003, she will join the local law firm of Harrington, Hoppe & amp; Mitchell.
Atty. Tomko is the daughter of Jerry and Sandy Tomko of Garden Wood Drive, Boardman.
Billec is sworn in
Brett Billec of Campbell has passed the Ohio State Bar Examination and was sworn in as an attorney by Judge Maureen Cronin of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
Atty. Billec is a 1993 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School. He graduated magna cum laude from Youngstown State University in 1998 with a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice. He received his juris doctorate from Akron Law School in May.
He is the son of Robert and Sandra Billec of Chapel Lane, Campbell.
