Hiking trail set to open next month

Financing for the $90,000 trail has been through donations and grants.
CRAIG BEACH -- Lake Milton State Park officials are getting ready to open a paved hiking trail that will connect Craig Beach with adjacent woods.
Barbara Neill, the assistant manager for the state park, said park officials are hoping to open the trail in September. The trail will be a 11/4-mile loop that will be handicap-accessible and open to inline skaters, walkers and runners.
Neill noted that the gravel base for the trail has been installed, and some park visitors are already using the gravel as a walkway.
She said park officials decided to create the trail to give park visitors a safe place to walk, adding that several walkers have been hit by cars in other areas of the park. The 1,700-acre park does not have any paved walking areas, Neill said.
Construction of the $90,000 trail will be paid for with donations and grants from the Mahoning County Green Team and a federal recreational trail program.
